Another American Detained in Iran?

May 24, 2007 3:55 PM

Kirit Radia Reports:

abcnews

Yet another American citizen has disappeared in Iran and is feared to be in detention, according to Human Rights Watch, a nongovernmental organization based in New York.

Ali Shakeri, an Iranian-American dual citizen, was scheduled to leave Iran on May 13, but "he disappeared from the radar," Human Rights Watch's Hadi Ghaemi told ABC News.

Ghaemi has been in touch with Shakeri's associates who say the political activist and writer from Irvine, Calif., was in Iran to visit his mother who died while he was there.

According to a statement released by Human Rights Watch, those associates believe Shakeri is "being detained by Iranian authorities."

"The Iranian government has not provided any public information about his whereabouts," the statement continued.

If Shakeri is detained, he would be the third Iranian-American to be detained by Iran in recent weeks in addition to others who have been prevented from leaving the country.

The U.S. State Department could not confirm that Shakeri was missing or detained, but deputy spokesman Tom Casey said, "We are concerned by the fact that there appears to be a pattern here of harassment against private citizens and against private Iranian-Americans, and that's something that I guess the Iranians will have to offer an explanation for."

Casey said the U.S. does not plan to raise the subject of the detained Americans during an historic meeting with Iran planned for next Monday. For the first time in decades, the United States and Iran will hold high-level talks in Baghdad between U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and Iranian officials.

Casey said that meeting would focus exclusively on issues related to Iraq. The United States accuses Iran of fomenting sectarian violence in Iraq by providing munitions and training to armed groups in an effort to destabilize the country and attack U.S. troops.

Mass arrests in Balochistan

22 May 2007

Balochistan Peoples Front

London, 21 May 07. Balochistan Peoples Front-- 1479 Baloch have been arrested during the Unity 1 Manoeuvre in Baluchistan and Baluch dominated areas of Kerman, the official Iranian news agency, IRNA reported. The agency quoted the director of Public Relations of Operational Base of Rasool Akram as saying that 156 polluted locations were cleansed and 6 armed men were killed. He added that 174 insurgents and their associates were also arrested.

At the same time there were other reports that dozens of wounded security forces were transferred to different hospitals in Zahedan including Bany Akram hospital. Another report by Marzeporgohar.mihanblog.com confirmed that a large number of injured security forces are in critical conditions and the hospital officials have banned the ordinary people from visiting the hospital.

Some witnesses believe the objective of this manoeuvre was to cleanse ethnic Baluch from their ancestral lands under different pretexts. The official who gave the news of the Unity 1 Manoeuvre categorised 1479 Baluch as aggressors. This is a new term that was attributed to some people to justify their eviction from their lands under ethnic cleansing policy of the Iranian government.

Roya Sarani, a 12 year old girl was shot dead by the Iranian security forces in Zahedan on 16 May 07. Her parents were forced to bury her in a quiet manner. They were not allowed to hold a public burial for their daughter. She was gunned down after returning from school to home after sitting her exams.

The People's Resistance Movement of Iran announced that one of their bases in Sarawan was attacked by the Iranian security forces at three o'clock in the morning of 14 May o7. A gun battle was exchanged between the two sides which resulted in the death of 7 revolutionary guards. The security forces were forced to retreat after the local people protested against their presence in the region.

The arrests of 1479 Baluch as aggressors and another 174 as insurgents indicates the Islamic Republic's resolve for relentlessly pursuing ethnic cleansing of Baloch people from their ancestral homelands. The Iranian government announced that 700 Baluch have received their death sentences from the Iranian Supreme Court. After Amnesty International's appeal for help for saving the lives of these people, Iranian regime decided to transfer a large number of the condemned Baluch to different provinces of Iran including Khorasan and Hormozgan. 20 Baluch have been executed in these provinces in the last three weeks, according to the Iranian official news agency, Irna.

‘Anti-Baloch’ wall on Pak-Iran border opposed

Monday, May 28, 2007
http://www.thenews.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=8155

QUETTA: The Leader of the Opposition in Balochistan Assembly, Kachkol Ali, Advocate, on Sunday demanded an immediate change of Balochistan Governor because of his "anti-Baloch policies" and strongly opposed the construction of a wall on the Pak-Iran border.

Addressing the media at the MPA Hostel here on Sunday, Kachkol Ali said, "Governors of Balochistan and Sistan Balochistan are not our well-wishers," adding that he had tabled an adjournment motion in the House about the Gold Smith Line on May 26 in which it was made clear that an unnatural line had been drawn against the will and desire of the Baloch nation. Now the construction of a 10-feet high and four-feet wide wall has been started, which is creating difficulties for the Baloch people.

He said excesses were being committed against the Baloch since 1948 in West Pakistan. The building of this wall would futher divide the Baloch families. He said the Germans had built a wall, which was demolished. But neither the Pakistani nor the Iranian Baloch were taken into confidence over the construction of the wall along the Gold Smith Line. "We demand that the construction of the wall should be stopped immediately."

Kachkol Ali said if a war took place between Iran and America, the Baloch would be the worst sufferers as the soil and the sea in these areas belong to the Baloch people.

He said that Deputy Speaker Aslam Bhotani had disposed off his adjournment motion in his one-sided action.

Kachkol said if the assembly did not resolve the problems of the Baloch, what was the use of such an assembly. He said the ruling of the Speaker against the adjournment motion was against the people and democratic interest. He appealed to the international organisations to save the Baloch people.

He said Baloch were a nation by all means and definitions with a rich cultural heritage spreading over thousands of years. He said in 1800, Balochistan was divided due to Gold Smith Line.

To a question, he said his party members in the Senate would also discuss this issue in the House.

"We pay tributes to Governor Kandahar who has said Baloch from Balochistan are his guests." He, however, added that if the Governor of Sistan came to Balochistan again, they would hold protests.

Blasts cut rail links with Iran

May 29 2007
http://www.int.iol.co.za/

Around a dozen blasts rocked Pakistan's insurgency-hit south-western province of Baluchistan, cutting the lone rail link with Iran and injuring four people, police said on Tuesday.

An autonomy-seeking tribal group behind nearly three years of attacks on government and other installations claimed responsibility for the overnight bombings, nine of which were in the provincial capital Quetta.

Four people were hurt when "miscreants" lobbed a hand grenade at labourers sleeping on open ground in Quetta, city police chief Wazir Khan Nasir told AFP, using the official jargon for the rebels.

Three blasts targeted railway tracks, cutting off Quetta's twice-weekly rail link with the Iranian border town of Zahedan and also suspending train services to the rest of Pakistan, officials said.

The next Zahedan service was due on Friday.

Other explosions ruptured gas pipelines.

The outlawed Baluchistan Liberation Army said it had carried out the attacks to coincide with the May 28 anniversary of Pakistan's 1998 underground nuclear tests, which were conducted in the province's Chaghi mountains.

"May 28 was a black day in the Baluch history when the nuclear tests were conducted on Baluchi soil," spokesman Beeberg Baloch said in telephone calls to local newspaper offices.

The ethnic Baluch insurgents want more control and a bigger share of the profits from sparsely-populated Baluchistan's rich gas and mineral resources.

President Pervez Musharraf said on May 10 that most rebel camps had been "smashed" since the army killed rebel chief Nawab Akbar Bugti in August 2006, but reiterated an amnesty offer and pledged more development funds. - Sapa-AFP

TURKISH NATION IS ALIVE

On the occasion of the rebellion of the Turkish nation of Azerbaijan

30-05-2007

The date of May 22, 2006 is unforgettable in the Iranian history. This day, the Turkish nation rebelled to react against the insults and other practices towards themselves in the region of Azerbaijan in Iran, created an epic with the participation of the millions of people and started the national awakening.

The Turkish people did not react only to the publication of the absurd cartoons against the Turks in the Newspaper of Iran subordinate to the Iranian state. They also gave the reactionary and thoughtless leaders in power and the chauvinists a strong message indicating that they would not tolerate any insult.

Today, the intentions of the chauvinists regarding the Turks (Turkmens and Azaris), Arabs, Baluchis and other nations have been revealed.

With the publication of these cartoons, they seek to insult the Turkish nation and oppress them. Nevertheless, the proud Turkish nation of Azerbaijan has found its own identity with the demonstration of millions of people and its objections. It has been a lesson for the government and its mercenaries.

The regime of the Islamic Republic has deceived a part of the Turkish nation for years by using the Shiite sect and tried to remove the national identity and Turkish language in Azerbaijan. The chauvinist mercenaries living in the era of 2500 years ago still seek to humiliate the Turkish nation. They consider the language of the Azerbaijani Turks as a branch of the Persian language and they use the rudest words for the Turks in their jokes. Humiliating the Turkish and Turcoman children, they try to make them ashamed to speak the Turkish.

This regime, which is highly dissatisfied with the Turkish overpopulation, has used the religion and Shiite as an instrument to make the Turkish people forget their identity. In this regime, the representative of the Supreme leader qualifies the development of the Turkmen nation as treachery. This regime show the Turks as cockroach, the Arabs as undeveloped and eater of lizard and the Baluchis as nasty and ignoble.

Such a reaction of the Turkish nation and the support provided by the other nations to this reaction was unexpected for this regime. The demonstration of the Turkish people that took place with the participation of millions of persons has frightened them. They shot the people. They killed, injured, tortured and imprisoned many persons. This regime has proved that the greatest enemy of the Turkish nation is the regime of Islamic Republic being reactionary, chauvinist, supporter of the Supreme Leader.

The Turkish nation of Iran -either Azerbaijani Turk, Ghashghay or Turcoman- celebrates this epic and bloody rebellion of millions of people in its anniversary and warns the regime about the fact that it won’t be able to insult this old and heroic people any more; because the outcome of such an insult against the Turks will be extremely serious; because this nation has awaked and because it has discovered its own identity and its own path.
